On June 14, 2022, we were devastated by the passing of our dear friend, sister, daughter, mother, wife, and advocate Emily Eckman. Her fight against Ovarian Cancer, along with her support, advocacy, and passion for those afflicted and effected by this disease was a permanent fixture of her last three years with us.
So in July 2022, we did what we expect Emily would have done. Emily’s Fighter Foundation, Inc was created to pick up her fight, and provide for research funding, program support, and disease awareness. Through donations to Emily’s Fighter Fund – the endowment created to ensure that this fight is funded for forever – the foundation will work together with other Ovarian Cancer advocacy groups, scientists, doctors, clinics, and families to maximize the impact on treatments, testing, and survivor support.
So What’s Next?
Building an endowment that can fund research grants, program support, and disease awareness without drawing down principle is key to making Emily’s Fighter Foundation successful in perpetuity. If your fight is against Cancer, longevity is a critical asset. Our first phase will be building Emily’s Fighter Fund to a level where we can support a $25,000 scientific research grant through the fund’s proceeds. Based on recent market performance and donor capacity, we anticipate reaching this level by 2027.
Then, the real work begins.
Continuing to grow the endowment, and capacity for funding, will be critical as we move into the second phase of our
plan – building multi-year grant funding opportunities that make Ovarian Cancer research a priority for educational and industry labs across the US.
These are ambitious goals for a startup, of course. We think that Emily would expect no less.
